Fallout fans get free surprise you've 72 hours to claim

Christmas may be over but that doesn’t mean the gifts have stopped coming, as Fallout fans noticed that they’ve received an extra special treat from Bethesda.

Thank you in advance to Tanner Dedmon over on Comicbook for spotting this one!

Players that logged into Fallout 76 today realised that they’ve received an unannounced freebie, courtesy of the developers.

It seems Bethesda are in an extra giving mood post-Christmas, because from now until the 30th (as confirmed by the official Fallout Twitter account) you can earn double XP in Fallout 76.

Although this reward probably isn’t too exciting for Fallout 76 veterans, those who have jumped into the game following the new Gleaming Depths update are probably thrilled with the freebie.

It’ll be even better for those who received the game for Christmas, as jumping in with double XP now will let you power level through the game’s early quests and let you get to the new end-game content ASAP.

Bethesda has stated that the Gleaming Depths update “represents the largest change to Fallout 76 endgame experience yet,” so you’ll need that extra boost to get through to the new juicy content they have in store for you.

Plus, even veteran Fallout 76 players will likely be a little thankful for the gift, as lots of players are probably planning on starting up a new character so they can play as a ghoul for the first time.

Don't fret if you're not too bothered about double XP though, as you won't have to wait long for the next freebie.

A legendary vendor sale begins on January 2nd, followed by a gold rush/double mutations event and a mutated public event on January 9th, and a caps-a-plenty event on January 16th.

They’ll probably drop an unscheduled freebie again at some point between all of that too, so check back here in just under a week to see if there’s any extra freebies to grab.
