With just about any open-world RPG, it’s easy to miss certain quests and hidden secrets - and Bethesda’s Fallout 4 is no exception.
When Fallout 4 was released in 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, despite its typical Bethesda launch glitches, it quickly became a fan-favourite entry in the post-apocalyptic series. What’s more, thanks to the success of the recent Fallout live-action adaptation from Amazon Studios, Fallout 4 is now more popular than it has been in years.

“Are there any hidden treasures in Fallout 4 that you easily overlook?” asked Redditor mydutch and fellow users on the thread were eager to share their discoveries. In particular, a Fallout 4 fan found a secret treasure hunt that many of us would have missed.

“The messages in bottles. I spent hundreds of hours and had no idea they existed,” replied HoonFace to which mydutch and others asked, “Where can I find them? Is there a 'start' bottle?”
“There are five separate bottles along the coast, they're unrelated. When you pick one up you can read the message, and a quest marker appears pointing to a loot chest hidden somewhere in the ocean,” HoonFace explained.
They continued: “The easiest one to find might be at the Castle, just follow the coast on the exterior - it's within the settlement borders,” before sharing a wiki link providing more details on the secret treasure hunt.
I’ve put so many hours into Fallout 4 and I never knew this quest existed. So the next time I venture into the post-apocalyptic wasteland, I’ll be keeping a lookout for that message in a bottle.
