With the new-gen Fallout 4 update showing no signs of being released any time soon, modders have got to work on offering players a simple overhaul which will make the 2015 RPG look like Fallout 5.
As each year goes by, video game graphics continue to improve meaning titles that are just five years old can look dramatically different from titles such as Alan Wake II which were released just this year. With some studios working hard on bringing updates to their ageing titles, other much-loved games have to rely on hard-working modders who bring quick and simple fixes.

That is the case for Bethesda’s 2015 RPG, Fallout 4. There are thousands upon thousands of mods out there which provide everything from new outfits to brand-new dialogue but thanks to Youtuber Markfusion, there are some easy ways to make Fallout 4 look like Fallout 5.

In their Youtube video, Markfusion discusses nine mods that help boost Fallout 4’s graphics. This includes: Enhanced Lights and FX, NAC X Legacy Edition, Godrays for NAC X, Cinematic Lensflares, Quantum Horizons ENB, Fallout 4 HD Overhaul, True Grass, Nuclear Reloaded and Nuclear Reloaded DLC patch.
All of these mods can be found on Nexus Mods and when combined can make Fallout 4 look like a 2023 release. For example, the Enhanced Lights and FX mod limits the game’s overall brightness and instead introduces more realistic lighting as well as mood lighting. The NAC X Legacy mod brings new types of weather and seasons to the Commonwealth which you can also customise via your Pip-Boy.
Additionally, Godrays and Cinematic Lensflares again work to improve lighting in outdoor areas, Quantum Horizons ENB is a shader pack, Fallout 4 HD Overhaul improves textures and resolution, True Grass is a grass and flora overhaul and Nuclear Reloaded improves trees and landscapes.
With the recent news that Starfield modders have “given up” because the “game is trash”, it is reassuring to see that the Fallout modding community is still alive and kicking.
