Fallout 4 fans are baffled by a mystery NPC that they’ve never met before. Do you know who this rare character is?
Released in 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Fallout 4 is one of the most popular entries in Bethesda's acclaimed post-apocalyptic RPG series. This year, the beloved RPG was made even better (eventually) thanks to its free new-gen update.

What’s more, the likes of Fallout 4 and even Fallout 76 benefited from a new surge of players thanks to the well-received live-action series Amazon. Now, fans not only eagerly await the arrival of season two of the Amazon series but also the highly anticipated Fallout 5.

In the meantime, there’s still plenty of fun to be had with current Fallout offerings and considering the size of the fourth numbered entry, there’s still plenty of secrets for fans to discover, such as the mystery NPC that is the topic of this story.
“I encountered a wandering trader named "The Scribe". Is he rare or not? (he has a gas mask because of a mod),” asked Low-Implement-9353.

From what I can tell, it’s at least not Hunk from the Resident Evil series, right? Thankfully, fellow Fallout fans in the Reddit thread were quick to provide proper answers.

“He's one of a handful of unique traders that you can recruit to your settlement,” replied GhostB5. “They spawn as your overall settlement population goes up and when you assign them to their trade post they sell some legendary items.”
“The Scribe is a legendary Armour merchant. Recruiting him to a settlement and assigning him to a top-level Armour Merchant stall/counter will give him an even better inventory than that normally entails, including some legendary items,” said SymbolicRemnant, adding some Fallout lore.
So, there you have it, if you encounter this NPC in Fallout 4, he’s a merchant wanting to sell you some legendary goodies and needs to be sent to your settlement ASAP.
Fallout 4 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s also available for subscribers of Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost.
