Bethesda has blessed us with many wonderful gaming memories over the years whether it be The Elder Scrolls, Fallout or another series from the publisher entirely.
Amongst its best video games of all time is the post-apocalyptic RPG from 2008, none other than Fallout 3. Which by the way, is my personal favourite Fallout game in the series. Fallout 3 encouraged the player to explore the barren wasteland of Washington D.C whether it be on the surface or rummaging in one of its underground vaults. It was also packed with interesting NPCs and deadly enemies and some of its side-missions were even more enjoyable than the main campaign.

Fallout 3 is at this point 15 years old and at least visually, it’s starting to show its age. Even the more recent Fallout 4 which was released in 2015 isn't leagues above its predecessor. Thankfully, at least when it comes to Fallout 4, Bethesda is releasing a new-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which was recently delayed into 2024.

So what about Fallout 3, surely at this point there are no plans for it to receive a remaster, right? Well, we might be wrong because leaked Microsoft documents suggest that Fallout 3 is receiving a remaster from Bethesda. However, that news hasn't been officially announced, so what about now? Thankfully, a talented modder is already on the case and this Fallout 3 graphics overhaul mod is so good, it looks better than Fallout 4.
The mod in question is the ‘Fallout 3 HD Overhaul’ available to download now via Nexusmods. Created by luxor807, this mod features textures ranging from 1K to 8K and the results are stunning. The only drawback of this mod is that it’s PC only.
“It looks so good, I thought it was Fallout 4,” said a user commenting on the mod page. “Truly amazing how you have made an old 32-bit game look so good. Excellent work,” exclaimed gurleygirl. “Not playing Fallout 3 anymore, but damn, this looks amazing! Wonderfully done,” replied a very impressed Wyrnox.
