Earlier this week FromSoftware released the massive patch 1.03 for Elden Ring. This substantial new update added some much-needed quality-of-life improvements, weapon balancing, and even a few bits of brand-new content.
Unfortunately, it seems that the patch hasn't quite gone down brilliantly with all Elden Ring players. You can't please everyone, but apparently you can really piss off some people.
Before we move on, did you know you can actually pause Elden Ring? You can! Find out how below:
I'll admit the Elden Ring update is not without its downsides. For one thing, the patch has managed to nerf The Sword Of Night And Flame, one of the best weapons in the game. It's also taken the Mimic Tear Ash down several pegs, making the game's most powerful - and useful - summon considerably less viable. Did I rely on both of these as part of my build? I think you know the answer.

These issues aside, I'm pretty happy with everything else the patch has done. One of most useful changes is the new ability to keep track of the game's many NPCs on your map by jotting down their exact name and location. Elden Ring is a huge game, after all, and there are various quest NPCs all over the shop. There's no harm in the game helping you remember where they are, is there?
Apparently there is. According to one incredibly angry gamer who believes that making the game ever so slightly more accessible is a bad thing, Elden Ring's latest patch is the beginning of the end for the game.
As spotted on Reddit, the irate fan believes that NPC markers are the "first step to the downfall". I'm gonna guess the person who wrote this is maidenless.
"All you scrubs who need your hands held can't utilise the 100 map markers you were given," they continue. "So now we can see NPC spots. What's next? A minimap? A hub for spells? I can't FromSoft. I have always backed these devs but they're giving into you scrubs. And it's only gonna get worse from here. Thanks for ruining the game scrubs. Go back to Elder Scrolls where you belong."

I'm happy to report that the overwhelming majority of the Elden Ring subreddit rightly agreed that this person is a clown, and that the game remains decidedly un-ruined. I might play some Elder Scrolls this weekend though, as a treat.
