One of the developers of Battlefield 2042 is in sympathy with players on the topic of timeliness of patches for the game that address its technical errors, agreeing that the team would have ironed out the problems with Portal had there not been other complicating factors.
How do you solve a problem like Battlefield 2042? How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand? Its post-launch season of content is likely to have been delayed given the state of the game and this is said to be the result of a significantly compressed development time. A recent report claimed that DICE had only 15 months to complete work on Battlefield 2042 to hit its release window at the end of 2021, which would have been an immense feat even without the stumbling blocks that arose from the ongoing pandemic.

It's not worth wringing our hands over what went wrong with Battlefield 2042, though. It went wrong, DICE is supporting the state of the game, and it'll be back better than ever before. I'd argue that the most pressing issue lies in the relationship between the developer and the players, and historically, it has been a tense one with communication that has been fraught at the best of times. However, it looks like one DICE developer is on the same page with some of the grumbly fans and agreed that the timeline for fixes must be more expedient.
"Thanks for bringing this up. You’re not wrong! It’s taking us too long to get this resolved. Something that should have been simple is proving to be quite complex," explained senior design director Justin Weibe in response to a player's complaints about experience point increases and weapon progression in Portal. "Look for an update next week. There will be a phased approach to improving the progression in BF Portal."
Hopefully this is the start of a more conducive relationship between the developer and the players. EA's global director of integrated communications Andy McNamara criticised players for being demanding of DICE over the holidays in a series of deleted Tweets and the developer told the users of the game's subreddit to cut down on negative content about the team or the subreddit will be closed.
