Herschel ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm is best known for being a streamer and Call of Duty player but recently, he also co-founded his own game studio, Midnight Society, which is currently working on a ‘vertical extraction shooter’ called Deadrop.
From the get-go, Dr Disrespect set some huge expectations for his game. Last year, he claimed that the reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II couldn’t match up to an in-game screenshot of Deadrop. When an early tech demo dropped, gamers were split on whether it could really be a rival to the Call of Duty franchise, but many were optimistic - one said that it “looks better than any Call of Duty in the past five years”.
Take a look at this CoD-loving grandpa in action below.
Now though, as GGRecon reports, gamers can get pre-alpha access to Deadrop, and many have been left unimpressed by the experience. To get access to Dr Disrespect's game, players need to pay $25 for a ‘Tower Key’ - this also gives those who buy it some exclusive cosmetics, a battle pass for Season Zero and more. Even so, this clearly hasn’t been enough to sweeten the deal for some.

“I know it's pre-alpha so the graphics and gameplay aren't finished but the concept of the game isn't that great. An extraction shooter on rooftops where players team in solos and camp high ground/extraction points. Sounds like a miserable experience,” Reddit user TR1CL0PS wrote. “Looking [like] s**t and that's it. I know that the game is in the development stage but damn it’s pre-alpha and it’s in bad shape. No weapon [mechanics]. No recoil control. Map is crap. Everyone is appreciative but saying that the game is crap is just real and objective. No hate towards game or the developers,” added Iwanchek. “I love Doc but the game looks really ass lmao,” said BACKFROMTHEDEAD92.
That’s not to say that Deadrop doesn’t have its fans, though. Many in the thread reminded critics that, as stated on Midnight Society’s website, the studio “was founded on the core principles of transparency and open development”, and at the end of the day, the game is nowhere near finished yet.
“Call it alpha, beta, pre-alpha, whatever you want. It's not finished. They're (Midnight Society) being so transparent about their development process, people should appreciate that. I think it should be done more to be honest. To have the balls to show something unfinished five times - and more times in the future. For marketing, it's not good. For the people that appreciate seeing a game grow - it's great,” bitvisuals wrote. “Perfectly stated,” agreed bdollhawley1.
