It’s a pretty safe assumption to make that within the world of comic book stories, no one stays dead forever.
Marvel’s Deadpool character is known for being one of the most meta, regularly letting readers and viewers know that he’s in a fictional world and will often speak to the audience, breaking the fourth wall. What’s more, no franchise, character or pop culture reference is seemingly safe from the lips of the ‘Merc with a Mouth’.
Following the release of Deadpool 2 in 2018, it’s been one of the worst-kept secrets that a third movie is on the way. In fact, Marvel chief Kevin Feige confirmed in 2021 that when Deadpool 3 finally arrives, it will be the first R-rated movie to be part of the MCU.

When Deadpool 3 was officially announced by star Ryan Renolds in 2022, it was also revealed that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine would also be making a triumphant return. Just a heads up, I’m about to go into spoilers for Logan (2017), so consider this your spoiler warning.
At the very end of Logan, Wolverine died. So many fans were left wondering how is the character making a return in Deadpool 3. Well, the answer to the question is simple. Deadpool 3 is set in modern times, while Logan is set in the year 2029.
So technically in terms of timelines, Wolverine isn't dead. Though it could also be argued that Logan is set in another multiverse. After all, the Logan movie predates 20th Century Fox being acquired by Disney, thus meaning, that Logan wasn't part of the MCU at the time.
However, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, one other character's return that perhaps cannot be explained quite as easily as Wolverine is Elektra played by Jennifer Garner from the 2003 Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck as Matt Murdock. Another heads up, I’m about to go into spoilers for that Daredevil movie.

In Daredevil (2003), Jennifer Garner’s Elektra died at the hands of Bullseye, played by Colin Farell. At this time, it’s not explained how or why the character will exist in Deadpool 3. That being said, it’s safe to assume that she may exist to be part of the franchise's signature meta-humour. Of course, I could be totally wrong, and Eletkra could be an integral part of the movie. Only time will tell.
At this time, Deadpool 3 is expected to be released in cinemas on 8 November 2024. In related news, our first look at Deadpool in the MCU has dropped online.
