I really didn’t think 2023 would be the year that Days Gone finally found its moment in the spotlight, but that’s exactly what’s happened. Plenty of people are gaining access to the title through PlayStation Plus, and there’s the fact that a bunch of us are seeking another zombie fix after the conclusion of HBO’s The Last of Us.
The combination is working wonders for the game. Days Gone was torn apart upon release, even though it garnered a score of 71 which really isn’t that bad. It did mean though that Sony pulled the plug on a Days Gone 2 - despite the fact that the game sold the same number of copies as Ghost of Tsushima. Fans set up a petition requesting that Sony change their mind. Now, people are full of praise for the title with some even declaring it to be one of ‘the best zombie games of all time’.
Take a look at the game in action below.
I guess this goes to show that timing is everything because I’d go as far as saying that there’s more love for the game now than there has ever been. Don’t get me wrong, it’s by no means a perfect title but people are having fun with it. Reddit user xiosy wrote, “I will never understand the hate towards Days Gone. To me, it’s one of the best zombie games of all time. Because of the hate, we won’t get a Days Gone 2 anymore which this franchise deserved.” Plenty agreed, with the post earning over 12,000 upvotes.

User xActuallyabearx wrote, “I just played it for the first time like two weeks ago. I didn’t know anything about it at all and I liked it enough to platinum it.” You do have to remember that Days Gone released in quite a buggy state which may also be why more people are finding it enjoyable now.
Judging by the popular consensus, players were also originally put off the game by director John Garvin after he blamed the failure on ‘woke critics’. He also blamed the sequel’s cancellation on players buying the game in sales, months after release. Not the best way to foster a community.
