Cyberpunk 2077 publisher confirms surprise new release coming this year

Cyberpunk 2077 publisher confirms surprise new release coming this year

We return to Night City

Cyberpunk 2077 publisher has confirmed that we’ll be returning to Night City once more later this year in a surprising new release.

Despite its highly publicised launch woes, it’s fair to say that CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 went on to become one of the best RPGs in years. Building on the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, in Cyberpunk 2077, players are taken to the futuristic, dystopian world of Night City, a place where crime most certainly pays.

Cyberpunk 2077 went on to achieve great success outside of video games with the fantastic Netflix series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, as well as board games, novels, countless merchandise and much more.

What’s more, in 2023, CD Projekt RED released the highly anticipated expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 with Phantom Liberty starring Idris Elba as the brooding Soloman Reed.

In our review of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, GAMINGbible’s Ewan Moore said: “It fills me with joy to be able to report that this is a deeply ambitious expansion that fires on all cylinders and never delivers anything less than a stellar experience.”

“CD Projekt RED is walking away from Cyberpunk 2077 in the best possible way, delivering on the game’s immense potential and dropping one final, unforgettable adventure.”

In a recent CDPR blog post, details on the publisher's financial earnings were revealed for the third quarter of 2024. It confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 30 million copies and its Phantom Liberty expansion, eight million copies.

What’s more, following in the footsteps of Capcom’s Resident Evil series, Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion are coming to compatible iOS devices later this year. Hopefully, CDPR will achieve more success on the mobile platform, unlike Resident Evil which proved to be a major flop.

“In the coming year the base game, along with its expansion, will be released to a new group of users: owners of Mac devices powered by Apple Silicon chips,” announces Michał Nowakowski, the joint CEO of CD Projekt.

At this time, no release date has been announced for Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty for iOS devices but considering we’re nearly in December, I would imagine that date is not too far away.
