Although we now know that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the first and last expansion for the hit RPG, a recent discovery has revealed that may not have always been the case.
Released in 2023, Phantom Liberty was confirmed to be Cyberpunk 2077’s first and only expansion with the CD Projekt Red going on to turn its attention to The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 instead.

However, according to a recent discovery, it seems as though a cancelled expansion would have seen players head to the moon and if you have seen Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, you would know why.

The discovery unearthed some assets showing moon bases and a brand-new map and it appears as though this would have been the second and final expansion for Cyberpunk 2077.
However, when Phantom Liberty developed on a much larger scale than first planned, it seems as though CD Projekt Red scrapped this idea.
Apparently, the moon-based DLC was originally unearthed way back in 2021 during a large-scale CD Projekt Red leak.
In a thread on 4chan, an anonymous user shared more information about this scrapped project, including images of the moon base, map layout and directories.

They wrote: “As we all know Cyberpunk was supposed to get multiple expansions, not just Phantom Liberty. And it seems that this moon expansion was supposed to be Cyberpunk’s Blood and Wine, bringing an entirely new map.”
“I think this expansion would take place during another corporate war or a covert operation,” they continued. “There are multiple things, signs, quests throughout the base game that suggest that the world is on the brink of another corporate war and that relations between corps are very tense.”
Although the moon expansion will never make its way to Cyberpunk 2077, it could always make a return during or after Cyberpunk 2. Never say never!
