So, just in case you forgot it was a thing, Illumination’s (currently untitled) Mario movie is happening some time this year. Excited? If you are, I do seriously question why.
We don’t know a great deal about it yet, other than the cast, and oh boy, what a cast it is. Star-studded? Arguably, yes. Good? Uhhhh, no, not really. For some reason, Mario is being voiced by Chris Pratt, in what can only be the strangest casting decision of all time. What is that even going to sound like? Jack Black is Bowser, which is a bit less bizarre, but still pretty bewildering.
ICYMI... check out Chris Pratt talking about how he feels to be playing Mario in the upcoming movie.
Anyway, Mario’s beloved younger brother Luigi is, of course, also going to be there, and he’s set to be voiced by the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, Charlie Day (who does actually come from Italian heritage, which is more than can be said for Pratt). Speaking to ComicBook, it sounds like the actor would be up for more Luigi action in the future, beyond just the chaos that Illumination’s movie is inevitably going to bring.

“Yeah, my son was just playing Luigi's Mansion the other day on his Switch,” he said, when asked about the possibility of starring in a Luigi’s Mansion movie. “Look, I'm thrilled to get the opportunity, I grew up playing Super Mario Bros. as did everyone I know so, we'll see! It's like anything else in life, I'll go if I'm invited!”
As of now, there’s been no trailer released for the Mario movie, and I’m sure we can expect the internet to descend into chaos when it drops. The film is currently set to release around the end of the year, for better or worse.
