In a world that can be full of doom and gloom, there are some moments that remind you of the goodness of humanity.

That is definitely the case following the recent story of Caleb McAlpine, a terminally-ill Borderlands fan who decided to reach out to Gearbox ahead of the release of Borderlands 4.

Check out the official teaser trailer for Borderlands 4 below!

McAlpine, who is living with stage-4 cancer, has less than two years to live but one of his last wishes was to be able to experience Borderlands 4 before he passes away.

So he took to Reddit to share his story which all started when he reached out to developers Gearbox in the hope that they could make his wish come true despite claiming that it was a “long shot”.

Amazingly, Gearbox was happy to comply and sent out first-class tickets so that McAlpine and his friend could visit its Texas offices.

It was here that the pair were not only able to meet Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford and other developers but also got to play Borderlands 4.

"We got to play what they have for Borderlands 4 so far, and it was amazing," McAlpine shared.

"I don't know if I will be around when the game comes out, but I just want to say thank you to all of you for all of your love and support and for helping in making this happen. It truly was an amazing experience and it was just awesome."

Borderlands 4 was officially confirmed during August’s Gamescon but other than that, fans have yet to hear much more about the fourth instalment in the much-loved RPG series.

What we do know is that we can expect it to drop some time during 2025 but Take-Two Interactive has been quick to confirm that it will not clash with the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Hallelujah.
