Losing progress in any game is a frustrating situation. Losing progress in a game like Baldur’s Gate 3 can be heartbreaking.
That’s exactly what’s happening to some Xbox players currently. It took a while for the game to arrive on Xbox after some issues with the co-op element of the RPG hit. Now, a bug is causing havoc and erasing the save files of players. This is resulting in many losing tens of hours through no fault of their own.
Baldur's Gate 3 has scooped up many awards in 2023.
Sadly, Baldur’s Gate 3, while being a brilliant game that has scooped up awards left, right, and centre, is known for its bugs. Some have been hilarious, while others are causing situations like this, where players are losing precious time. While Larian Studios and Microsoft are working together to squash this horrible bug, it is still posing a threat to some players.

It might be worth putting a pause on your adventure until news comes that the bug has been eliminated. The last thing anyone wants is to lose over 100 hours in such an awesome game. Let’s be clear, you should all play the game many times to experience new classes and opportunities but not with this risk.
On a side note, this is something that has been around for years. I remember losing my Final Fantasy 7 50-hour save file because my memory card was corrupted. That was a heartache I never want to experience again.
Hopefully, this issue will be sorted soon. Larian Studios has shown that they will always act quickly on bugs and glitches. Their patches are often gargantuan and will stamp on any problems as quick as possible.
If you insist on playing, and we can’t blame you, try to keep a backup or two of your save files, just in case.
