An overhaul mod for Assassin’s Creed Unity has unlocked its full potential, updating the gameplay mechanics and adding new features.
Despite many players having fond memories of it, Assassin’s Creed Unity failed to live up to the hype upon its release in 2014. What was supposed to be a true next-gen AC game was in fact a buggy, broken mess at launch, which is a shame because it actually has a lot of redeeming qualities.
While Ubisoft has been happy to leave it in the past, the players haven’t, leading to the creation of a complete overhaul mod that finally allows the game to realise its true potential, breathing new-life into a game nearly a decade old.

The ACUFixes mod was shared in a recent Reddit thread, and adds a number of quality of life features, such as “removable hood, separate button for entering windows, being able to drop bombs and quickshot in more situations, less sticky cover, grab ledge button and more.”
These are much needed changes, as while the parkour was incredible, it always felt like there was a lack of control for the player, a real shame given how flashy and expressive the traversal moves were.

The mod also improves responsiveness for certain moves like crouching and changing direction via horizontal bars, making the parkour feel much more fluid. Combined with a second mod that improves the game’s visuals and brings the framerate up to a crisp 60 FPS, and Assassin’s Creed Unity truly feels like the next-gen game it was always meant to be.
Fans of the series have been praising the mod, not only for revitalising an AC game that didn’t get the love it deserved, but also the sheer quality of the improvements it made.
“This is incredible. I never expected AC mods to get this far."
“This is actually insane. I didn't think functionality mods like this were even possible for these games. Has this been tested in multiplayer?”

“this is honestly incredible, i know a lot of us like to sing unity's praises, and deservedly so, but the truth is it was always based on potential, the game is often inconsistent and personally for me has always been buggy still, but with this that potential can become reality and hopefully allow it to finally reach the heights we've seen it can reach”
Hopefully some of these fan changes give Ubisoft some bright ideas for future Assassin’s Creed games. The developer currently has 11 titles in the pipeline across a range of different platforms, and with Assassin’s Creed Mirage bringing the series back to its roots of stealth and parkour brilliance, it’s highly likely we’ll see some truly innovative gameplay mechanics in future instalments.
