An Assassin’s Creed game that was once thought to be cancelled has reportedly returned from the grave, and is in active development.

Ubisoft has been very busy recently, with 11 Assassin’s Creed games planned over the next few years, from new releases like Assassin’s Creed Mirage, mobile games, VR experiences and even a remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.

On top of all that, another AC game has reportedly returned from the grave, Assassin’s Creed Titans, which was thought to be long since cancelled.

Reddit user DudeWithName, recently shared a post that supposedly contains details on the game’s active development, including its genre, story and gameplay, which sound like a drastic departure from the series’ traditional formula.

Apparently, Assassin’s Creed Titans was originally supposed to be more akin to Monster Hunter, that’d see the player hunt and battle mythological creatures, much like those found in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This idea has seemingly been shelved, and replaced with a live-service brawler/looter model, supposedly inspired by Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers game, or the more recent Gotham Knights.

The game will also see the return of previous series protagonists, like Edward Kenway, Altair and Evie Frye, who will apparently act as merchants in the game’s hub-world, Ezio’s Villa Auditore.

Four classes will be selectable, Spartan, Apache, Medjay and Viking, each with their own unique skills and playstyles, as well as being callbacks to the previous centuries the games take place in. Spartans have a sword and shield and act as the main offence, as well as strengthening their own attacks with buffs. Apache will be agile, with two axes that can have altered battle stances. Medjay’s seem to be best at traversal, with a double-jump and enhanced parkour abilities. Finally, Vikings are essential tanks that can heal and revive allies during fights.

Fans don’t sound very impressed with the rumoured title, with the main concern being that its emulated looters like Avengers and Gotham Knights, which came under fire for microtransactions as well as generally being grind-fests with little to no substance.

“‘in the vain of Gotham Knights, Avengers, etc’ I mean sure, why wouldn't you want to copy the homework of such absolute blockbusters…”

“The hub area being Ezio's villa and vendor NPCs in it being the protagonists of other AC game sounds like the dumbest fanfiction in existence.”

“Does anyone like this kind of game?”

At the moment, Assassin’s Creed Titans is merely rumour and speculation, with no official confirmation of its existence by Ubisoft. That being said, with several projects currently in the works surrounding the AC franchise, it’s not out of the question that a spin-off title like this one could be on the way.
