One of the surprise hits to arrive early this year is from Assassin’s Creed publisher Ubisoft with the delightful Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
Unlike the troubled Sands of Time remake, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a Metroidvania that not only have fans of Metroid and Castlevania been enjoying, but it’s also welcomed a new legion of fans to the genre. On the aggregate website Metacritic, it has garnered scores in the high 80s cementing its place as one of 2024’s best video games already.

In our review of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, we said: “This is a marvellous achievement for Ubisoft, a company that thrives on its franchises, they’ve managed to create something that honours the past while feeling entirely fresh. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is, by turns, thrilling, bombastic, and extravagant. A welcome entry into the genre, a welcome return of a legend and a brilliant good time.”

If you’re wondering what’s next for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, then the game's director, Mournir Radi has provided an exciting update to fans on Twitter. While no specifics were given away, free downloads were teased in the coming months. Those free updates will add new content and modes to the game.
Radi warned fans to not only train with in-game character, Artaban but also playthrough Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’s highest difficulty setting, ‘Immortal’ mode. It’s been teased that refining your skills will come in handy, so could we be getting a new roguelike mode? Only time will tell. The first of the free updates is said to be arriving “very soon”.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. If you’ve never played this game before, we can wholeheartedly recommend checking it out, especially as it has a free playable demo on available digital platforms.
