Assassin’s Creed Mirage is out now, and while it may have received a rather lukewarm response from critics, fans are hailing it as a welcomed return to form for the franchise.
Over on Metacritic, Assassin’s Creed Mirage landed a score of 78 on the Xbox Series X, with a slightly lower rating of 77 on PlayStation 5 and PC. It’s by no means a bad score, and is classed as positive by Metacritic. I’m imagining it’s a tad lower than devs were hoping for though. To compare, Valhalla scored in the low 80s. Here at GAMINGbible, we rated the game an eight, saying, “It’s great to see the series shift its focus back to stealth [...] and I sincerely hope Ubisoft treat Mirage as the new baseline going forward, whilst still evolving the series further.” What’s really important is that fans have a good time, and by the sounds of it, they are.

Reddit user Atroxo celebrated the game as a “welcome return”, saying that, “To be perfectly honest, I was giving up on the franchise until Mirage released. Let me be clear, Mirage is not a perfect game, not even close, but I am still loving it nonetheless. It feels like the team at Bordeaux are truly returning to AC’s roots, and I am hoping that they continue to move in this direction. [...] Really happy that I can once again enjoy Assassin’s Creed. I wasn’t sure if we would ever get an entry like this again.”

That is really lovely to hear. Many others had praise for the game. “Assassin's Creed Mirage has been the only game in the entire series where I can consistently use stealth and be good at it,” Charming_Kick873 wrote, while saggynaggy123 said, “I'm absolutely loving it so far. Not perfect but a step in the right direction. You can tell how it originally started as a Valhalla expansion, hopefully they let the studio make another game on a bigger budget.”
I quite agree. It’s definitely a step in the right direction. At the time of writing, a user score is not available on Metacritic. As I’m sure you’re aware, Metacritic prohibits user reviews in the first 24 hours of release, encouraging people to actually spend that time playing the game. We’ll be keeping an eye on the score when it lands later today though.
