Assassin’s Creed is one of the most popular franchises in the video game industry and fans are eagerly awaiting its next major release, which should arrive as early as this year.
While no release date has been announced, Ubisoft is expected to release Assassin’s Creed Red later this year which will be set in Feudal Japan and is rumoured to have two playable protagonists. However, little else is known about the game (at least officially) and at the time of writing “Red” is a codename but it seems that its full title has recently leaked.

The last mainline entry to be released was Assassin’s Creed Mirage in 2023. In our review of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, we said: “For all of you who fell out of love with the Assassin’s Creed series during the RPG games, I'd urge you to take a leap of faith with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, I don't think you'll be disappointed.”

Basim Ibn Ishaq was first introduced as an important NPC to the plot of 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Basim was initially rumoured to get an expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla but it’s said that expansion later morphed into its own standalone game, Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Basim is certainly one of the more interesting characters of the Assassin’s Creed series in recent years which is why fans would love to see more of him one day. So with that in mind, as reported by VGC, Stéphane Boudon, the narrative director of Assassin’s Creed Mirage participated in a recent Reddit AMA in which he seemingly left the door open for Basim to return.
When answering questions as to whether we’ll see more of Basim one day, Boudon replied “We’re thrilled by the reception of Mirage,” adding “Mirage has been designed as a standalone experience without any DLC plan.”
“However, we have ideas on how we could extend the story of Basim, surely. But as of today, no post-launch content is planned for Mirage,” he concluded.

It remains to be seen whether Basim will make a return one day, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it to happen anytime soon, especially with Ubisoft no doubt having all its focus on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Red and Assassin’s Creed Hexe.
