Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed is one of its most popular properties and depending on who you ask, many will give a different answer to which is the best in the series. However, Assassin’s Creed II will likely be amongst the top contenders.
In 2016, fans of the series were treated to Assassin’s Creed The Ezio Collection which included remasters of Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Assassin’s Creed Revelations as well as all previously released DLC. It also included the two short films, Assassin’s Creed Lineage and Assassin’s Creed Embers.

Sadly, upon launch, Assassin’s Creed The Ezio Collection wasn't to the standard that some fans hoped thanks to some dodgy NPC textures and a not-so-perfect framerate. Thankfully, the remasters were eventually fixed and they’re now in a much better state especially when being played on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Yet, a dedicated fan has forged a remaster of Assassin’s Creed II that puts the official Ubisoft remasters to shame, it has to be said.

“Betrayed by the ruling families of Italy, a young man embarks upon an epic quest for vengeance. To eradicate corruption and restore his family's honour, he will study the secrets of an ancient Codex, written by Altaïr,” reads the synopsis of the game. “To his allies, he will become a force for change - fighting for freedom and justice. To his enemies, he will become a dark knight - dedicated to the destruction of the tyrants abusing the people of Italy. His name is Ezio Auditore da Firenze. He is an Assassin.”
The gorgeous gameplay of the fan-made Assassin’s Creed II remaster has been uploaded to the YouTube channel Digital Dreams. A series of mods have been put together for the Assassin’s Creed II remaster and takes advantage of an RTX 3090 with a glorious 8K resolution as well as enhanced textures, lighting and shade effects, something that is only capable on a beast of a PC.
Assassin’s Creed The Ezio Collection is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
