As a bodybuilder in his younger years, Hollywood royalty Arnold Schwarzenegger (who we interviewed in 2021, read that piece here) was a seven-times winner of the Mr Olympia competition. His very first movie role was in 1970’s Hercules in New York, playing the Greek god of the title. So you’d think he knows a thing or two about Ancient Greece and its mythology. And it seems his next role is very connected to the comings and goings of Mount Olympus.
Arnold recently appeared in World of Tanks - check the trailer below
The former Governor of California posted a picture to his Twitter account depicting the 74-year-old star of The Terminator, Predator and True Lies as the Greek god of the skies, Zeus. Ol’ lightning fingers is also the king of the gods of Mount Olympus, so he’s kind of a big deal. The picture aside, all the information we’re given in the post is “Coming February 2022”. Could be a movie, or a TV show… Or an advertising campaign for NFTs or mobile phones or food delivery services, who knows. We’ll find out soon enough.
Schwarzenegger’s next movie project is listed as Kung Fury 2, releasing sometime in 2022. This really doesn’t look like it’s related to that (and what’s more, he plays the US President in said movie, not an old Greek magic guy). There’s nothing particularly Greek-themed amongst his TV and gaming projects that we can immediately spot, which makes me think this is probably an ad campaign for something. Sorry to shatter anyone’s hopes for a massive-budget movie of warring gods.
Comicbook reports that Schwarzenegger will return to an older role in the near future, as he’s signed up - alongside original co-star Danny DeVito - for the sequel to 1988’s comedy Twins. Again, this picture sure isn’t that. The same site adds that this Zeus tease could well be something to do with an advertisement shown during the 2022 Super Bowl, which takes place on February 13. My guess: yep, probably. Batteries? Condoms? Hair and beard products? If it is NFTs, add another one to the list of people you used to think were mostly alright but ultimately preferred money over morals. (Luke Shaw, how could you?)
