An upcoming Star Wars film, from director J. D. Dillard, has been quietly cancelled. It's a shame, as it always is with these sorts of things, but we now know that Dillard probably aimed to take inspiration from the extremely influential 1994 game Star Wars: TIE Fighter.
You might have heard of Dillard before for his films Sleight and Sweetheart, and The Wrap was interviewing him about his upcoming biographical war film Devotion, which is set to release on 23 November in the United States. He commented that Devotion is his only project at the moment, following an announcement that his Star Wars film is no longer in development.

"It was not for lack of trying," admitted Dillard, and added he is still interested in the possibility of making a space movie, but that it would an "original idea" unconnected to any IPs. Though he was reluctant to share what the film would have been about, he did reveal that Star Wars: TIE Fighter was a huge influence on him as a child. Reading between the lines, and given Dillard's background, we would imagine that he wanted to make something that riffed off the stories of TIE fighter pilots.

In other news from a galaxy far, far away, it looks like Andor is sadly struggling to cleave to fans with only two episodes left of the first season. Parrot Analytics' report on audience demand in the United States pertains to how much people are talking about shows online rather than viewership. However, it was shown that The Mandalorian was very close to Andor to surpassing its audience demand, which is significant seeing that it's been two years since we've had an episode of that show and Andor is airing right now.
