Stardew Valley has just turned a decade old, and it seems bizarre to think we’ve all been chasing that farming dream for ten years now.
We all remember the first time we set foot on that farm, tilled our first patch of soil, and grew our first crops. If you’re really into farming and life simulator games, Stardew Valley is a rather unforgettable one.
With ConcernedApe releasing so many updates over the years, the game has changed rather dramatically between its original version and the latest patch. And with 1.7 in the works, more improvements are on the way.
However, one of the huge benefits of playing Stardew Valley on PC is the access you get to a huge plethora of mods which you can install for free.
These mods tweak your experience in rather dramatic ways, offering new content, improved features, and other enhancements to alter the game to your liking.
And since it’s a singleplayer game, it doesn’t really matter how much you install to change your experience, since it won’t negatively impact any players besides yourself.
We’ve rounded up the best mods for Stardew Valley which you can install with any PC version of the game. These are mods which go above and beyond to provide you with an alternate experience of the game, bringing new content, fresh difficulty buffs, and other changes to build on the foundation.
Stardew Valley Expanded
Quite easily the most famous mod for the game, Stardew Valley Expanded is a massive expansion which adds 28 new NPCs, 58 locations, and 278 character events to increase the diversity and variety of the game’s different events.
It also adds loads of new fish, reimagined vanilla areas, three farm maps, a reimagined world map reflecting all changes, new music, questlines, objects, crops, festivals, and loads more. While vanilla Stardew Valley is already a huge beast of a game, the Expanded mod takes things further.
It’s perhaps the most obvious mod, so keep scrolling for some more obscure picks.

Convenient Inventory
Stardew Valley’s Convenient Inventory mod does exactly as it says on the tin, by adding several new features to the inventory system. This includes being able to quick stack to nearby chests, favouriting items, and being able to auto-organise chests.
There are a bunch of options which go beyond that, such as being able to tweak how quick stack works, animation speed, and the various hotkeys for how to use it. All-in-all, it’s a great mod to use if you’re one to keep filing through inventory screens and different items.

Tractor Mod
Tending to your crops day-in and day-out can be pretty exhausting, especially when using the watering can and planting each crop individually takes a toll on your character’s energy.
Tractor changes this by allowing you to water crops, harvest them, and clear the floor of rocks and sticks. It makes you more efficient by being able to tend to your crops using the tractor, leaving you more time in the day to pursue social activities or other tasks on your to-do list.

NPC Map Locations
Have you ever been finishing off a task on your to-do list, and frantically searching for a specific character only to find them not in the place you expected them to be?
NPC Map Locations adds markers on your in-game pinpointing the location of each NPC that populates Pelican Town. If you’re looking to give Emily a prized Jade stone, or serve up some delicious Pumpkin Soup for Sebastian, this mod will help you find them without wasting your time searching every nook and cranny of the town.

Animal Husbandry
Animal Husbandry is a mod which adds new tools to the game which will help you with giving treats to your animals, as well as getting more meat from them. It should mean more ways to interact with the animals, in a way that feels friendly with the game’s vibe.

Merchant - Become a Shopkeeper
Merchant is a mod which allows you to run your very own shop in Pelican Town. Open a shop, decorate it, and sell your wares back to the townsfolk. You can also add new upgrades to the shop, allowing you to buy more stock and earn further profit.
The mod allows you to sell basically anything which you can put into the shipping bin, including modded items which are treated the same as standard items.

Lookup Anything
Lookup Anything basically adds an entire encyclopedia of knowledge to your Stardew Valley game, detailing live information about anything from a villager's favourite gifts, to why your animals are unhappy, to when a crop is ready to harvest.
It's an excellent resource for those players who don't want to constantly have a Wiki page open just to get basic facts about the game. I've always disliked that about sandbox games, arguing that the more information that's available to you in-game is always preferable to having to close the game window and open up a web page.

Aesthetic Valley Witchcore
Actually a large collection of mods, Aesthetic Valley Witchcore transforms the game's various clothes, buildings, and other assets to adopt a more 'witchy' vibe, almost like you're transforming Pelican Town into a Studio Ghibli location.
SImilarly, it also comes with some tools to help further customisation, allowing you to equip individual clothing items, paint furniture and objects, and freely place items without reopening menus. It's a pretty massive collection, but worth it for those who enjoy the customisation side of the game.
