Now that Star Wars Outlaws has been out for a few days for those who preordered, and a couple for everyone else, we’re beginning to see the world open up and reveal its secrets. The Ubisoft open-world adventure of Kay Vess and Nix may have arrived to a mixed reception, but there’s no denying that one of the things it gets right, is the immersive feeling of being in the galaxy of Star Wars.
Of course, the galaxy is vast and there are plenty of new characters to meet and unheard-of planets that we can explore, but as with any other part of popular culture, there has to be some cameos and easter eggs for the long-time fans. In this, Star Wars Outlaws doesn’t disappoint and we can find everything from Lando showing up, to a showdown between rivals.
Who did shoot first?
If you weren’t aware, you can visit the planet of Tatooine in Star Wars Outlaws. This shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise given the history the planet has for the franchise. If you visit the cantina of Mos Eisley where Luke Skywalker first meets Han Solo, you can find the very booth where Greedo and Han Solo face off ending with Greedo dead.

There’s a blaster mark scorched into the wall, plus nearby locals call the booth cursed, saying that if you sit there, you’ll end up shot and killed. It’s a nice touch given that Solo simply walks away after laying waste to poor old Greedo, leaving the bar owner to clear up his mess.
Nix interactions
Nix is a very helpful little companion who will steal items for you, open doors, and even start fights with random enemies. He’s an adorable addition to the galaxy and the franchise who will easily win over the hearts of players.

This little critter also has a delightful interaction if you aim your blaster at him. While you think he’d get angry over you aiming a weapon at him, it turns out Kay has been teaching him a few tricks, as he fakes getting shot before falling down and playing dead for a few seconds.
Jabba’s backstory
Star Wars Outlaws Does more than link to the iconic films we know and love, it also links to comic books that have since gone on to extend the lore of the galaxy. This is seen in Jabba the Hutt’s backstory, one in which Darth Vader appeared and propelled Jabba to the head of the Hutt cartel by way of slaughtering the rest of the Hutt council.
This removed Jabba’s rivals and led him to becoming the powerful leader we find in the game, but also in Return of the Jedi. If you want to read this for yourself, you’ll need to check out War of the Bounty Hunters from Marvel Comics. You can also find out more in Jabba’s lore tab in-game.

Not just a regular farm
Back on Tatooine, all fans must visit the Lars homestead, the place in which Luke Skywalker grew up with his aunt and uncle, under the watchful eye of Ben Kenobi. While Kay Vess approaches this farm with no knowledge of who lived here, it’s a nice easter egg to see where this whole adventure began.
Of course, standing at the homestead at the right time of day will put the iconic suns in the perfect position for you to recreate that moment when Luke gazes out into his future beyond the confines of the farm.
R5 with the bad motivator
Out in Jaunta’s Hope, you’ll find an astromech that is missing its ‘motivation actuator.’ This is in reference to the first Star Wars film, A New Hope. It’s the same model that Uncle Owen buys initially before being told it has a bad motivator. This is when C-3PO then prompts Owen to buy R2-D2 instead.

While this isn’t the exact droid - as far as we’re aware - the mission does spark some extra nostalgia for fans. It’s also worth noting that the droid, R5-D4 from A New Hope goes on to appear in The Mandalorian under the ownership of Peli Motto.
Speaking of droids
While we’re on the subject of famous Star Wars droids, you will open a cache at some point in the story and notice a couple of familiar ‘faces.’ Many of the criminal caches and vaults are filled with treasures and small details and a few of them will be instantly recognisable.

Standing together are a protocol droid and an astromech droid. While these aren’t the actual C-3PO and R2-D2, they’re shockingly similar and may give players a bit of a shock at first. You’ll find a few of these droids scattered around the galaxy, but seeing them together never gets old.
This trooper knows
Back to Mos Eisley, a place where so much of Star Wars has its roots, and you’ll find plenty of places to explore and people to meet. A large part of Star Wars Outlaws is eavesdropping on conversations to get tips and hints for places to visit and loot to find.
One stormtrooper has a line of dialogue that links to one of the most memeable moments from the prequel trilogy which occurs in Attack of the Clones. When talking to their squadmate the trooper says, “I don’t get why some people hate this place. I love sand!” Of course, this refers to the infamous line from Anakin Skywalker to Padme where he, quite woodenly says, “I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.”
Links to a spin-off
At one point in the story, Kay meets with a group of rebels, one of whom is Asara. Asara goes on to tell Kay why he joined the Rebel Alliance and opposed The Empire. It turns out that his sister wanted to fight The Empire, but he was afraid to join her. She was eventually killed on rebel’s mission to Scarif.
You may recognise this planet as the one that appeared in Star Wars: Rogue One, where the rebels stole the plans for the Death Star. Of course, if you’ve seen the film you’ll know that The Empire killed all the rebels left behind. Asara then went on to join the Rebel Alliance in memory of his sister.
