Halloween is here once again and if you don’t fancy dressing up as a character from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice or a Chipotle burrito (yes, I saw it), you can kick back and relax with a scary game.
However, one thing that won’t be scary is the price as all of these titles are free to download for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Some require higher tiers of the subscription so I’ll note that down but otherwise, here is a free way to get the spooks for Halloween 2024.

We are kicking off with a classic as Dino Crisis is not only back, but it is free to download for PlayStation Plus Premium members.
First released in 1999, this Capcom classic is the first instalment in the Dino Crisis series which follows Regina who is tasked with investigating a secluded island research facility.
However, and as you can probably guess from the game’s title, there are a few prehistoric beasts awaiting her arrival.

Outlast 2 is next up for Extra members and before you skip over this one because you haven’t played Outlast, do not worry as you can play it as a standalone game.
If you like sweating with fear at least.
Outlast 2 is a psychological first-person horror survival game which sees you take on the role of cameraman Blake Langermann.
After he and his wife get separated in the Arizona desert after a helicopter crash, Blake must travel through a village inhabited by a deranged cult that believes that the end is nigh. Surely not a recipe for disaster right?

Fans of a bit of lighthearted horror can check out The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me.
Available for Extra members or free for all as a trial, this interactive drama and survival horror game comes from the creators of Until Dawn.
The game follows a group of documentary filmmakers after they receive a mysterious call inviting them to a modern-day replica of serial killer H.H. Holmes’ ‘Murder Castle’.
Speak of the devil and the devil shall appear.

Until Dawn is also available for PS Plus Extra members this week but be warned, this is the 2015 version and not the recent remake.
This modern-day classic interactive drama horror game follows a group of teenagers who must survive a night on Blackwood Mountain after they find their lives threatened by the supernatural.
It is up to the player to decide who lives and who dies in this fun horror experience.

Fans of Lovecraftian-esque horror should try out Dredge.
Available on the PS Plus Extra tier, Dredge is a 2023 fishing horror RPG where players follow a lone fisherman who encounters questionable-looking creatures lurking in the depths.
As he ventures further out into the archipelago, the requests from nearby townsfolk get as weird as the Lovecraftian monsters in this atmospheric, creepy experience.
Siren, or Forbidden Siren, depending on who you ask, is originally a PlayStation 2 classic which has now been enhanced for PS4.
Free for Premium members, Siren is one of the classics and a horror game that brought in the ability to see through other’s eyes, even the monstrous Shibito.
You must try to survive a cursed mountain village as the former inhabitants become undead husks of their old selves.
Play as one of ten characters and try to stay alive within the three days you are given, but most of all, don’t answer the call of the Siren.
For this next one, you just have to hear me out.
Free for Essential members, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! Is the number one psychological horror experience, despite looking more like a slice-of-life anime.
You take on the role of the main character who joins a Literature Club in the hopes of finding a romantic partner.
However, as you romance your way around the school courtesy of your soppy poems, things soon take a dark and unexpected turn which you can only experience for yourself.
Fear the Spotlight for Premium members is an atmospheric third-person horror adventure with a “disturbing mystery to unravel”.
You will follow the story of Vivian and Amy who sneak into school after hours to take part in a séance.
However, when things suddenly go wrong, the pair must fight to survive by solving puzzles, uncovering the school’s dark history and most of all, staying out of the spotlight.
Available as a 2.5 hour trial, Alan Wake 2 is also available for Premium members.
Released last year as the long-awaited release of Alan Wake, this survival horror game found itself appearing in multiple categories at The Game Awards.
It follows the story of best-selling novelist Alan Wake, who after being trapped in an alternate dimension for 13 years, must attempt to escape by writing a horror story involving FBI Agent Saga Anderson.
Last but not least is MADiSON, which may be annoying to type, but is available for Premium members for up to one hour as a free trial.
This first-person horror game takes place in a large house where players take control of Luca, a teenage boy who has recently received a camera for his birthday.
However, this camera used to belong to a serial killer and through the device, the now-dead killer is able to control Luca in order to put an end to a macabre ritual.
