Ever since I moved out of my childhood home, I’ve been of the opinion that a bedroom is for two things: sleeping and sex. Unlike when I was a teenager holed up in my room for hours at a time, watching films or listening to music, my bedroom as an adult became a haven for resting. Ergo, no television.
Despite being generally pleased with this decision over the years, there have been times when I’ve wanted to rot in bed while also enjoying the pleasures of films and/or gaming. I have my Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck, both of which don’t require a TV, but it just wasn’t the same for me. Sometimes, you need to go big in the bedroom.
My unwavering dedication to having no TV in the bedroom began to falter when I was offered a chance to review the X Rocker Nebula Ottoman TV Bed. It wasn’t its flashy LEDs that attracted me to it – quite the opposite, in fact – it was the opportunity to be able to game in bed on a large screen. Plus, we were in need of a new bed frame, mainly because I had to use steps to climb into bed. And no, that isn’t a joke; it really was too high for my short stature to easily climb onto.

Imagine playing Dragon Age: Veilguard all snug in bed. Utter bliss, my friends
Before I get any deeper into this review, I have to make something clear: although the bed has been a dream since receiving it, its delivery was an absolute nightmare. The team who eventually delivered it to our door were very helpful in setting everything up for us. They even stayed longer than scheduled to try and get the LEDs to work (because of course they were faulty after several months of waiting for this bed).
What wasn’t okay was the fact that we didn't receive this product until early September, after an initial delivery date was set for March. This delivery slot was cancelled at the last minute without anyone informing us. Fortunately, we’d kept our old bed and placed it in the spare room, but the principle of Dreams’ poor communication still stands. No, customer service doesn’t impact the quality of the bed itself, but it's a potential problem you may run into. This bed is a huge expense, and thus you want to feel like you’ve paid for quality in both service and the product.

That’s as much as I’m going to discuss the unsavoury elements of my experience, for I don’t wish them to overshadow what is otherwise an exceptionally comfortable gaming setup. You might not even encounter the obstacles we did; I’d like to think ours was a distressing one-off that most customers won’t need to give a second thought to.
What you won’t be able to avoid, unfortunately, is the price of this bed. The X Rocker Nebula Ottoman TV Bed has a hefty £2,499 starting price, and that’s just for a single. For a king size like ours, it would set you back £2,699. That cost doesn’t include the various mattress options that immediately hike up said price, nor does it factor in the more expensive LG OLED TV option. Once you add those additional extras on top, you’re looking at well over £3,000 even before you add bed assembly as the cherry on top. Needless to say, this isn’t a bed you purchase on a whim.
It’s an expense you make when you want to ensure you can game in several rooms of the house rather than just one. The type of luxury that you intend to use regularly beyond the mere act of sleeping in it every night to justify the gaping hole left in your bank account. Would I buy this bed? To be totally honest, I don’t think I would. As much as I love everything about the X Rocker Nebula TV Bed, it’s a piece of furniture I didn’t need in my life. Sure, I wanted it, but that’s a different matter entirely.

That said, I can’t imagine my life without it now that I’ve experienced it, and so maybe I’m doing it a disservice assuming I’d forgo its comforts to save money. Snuggling under my duvet, the rainbow hues of the LEDs gently cutting through the darkness while I play my favourite RPG, is wonderful for those nights when I’m ready to wind down but not go to sleep. It’s also extraordinarily handy for when I want to go to bed early with my partner but carry on gaming. The convenience of its design allows me to plug my headphones into the headboard aux connection so that he can sleep soundly while I carry out yet another side quest.
However, upon removing the headphones you’ll experience a quality 5.1 surround sound system built into the bed. This comprises of a subwoofer soundbar at the foot of the bed where the TV emerges from, as well as “immersive speakers” on either side of the headboard. It adds an extra dimension to your playthrough or viewing experience.
You’ll also find a USB-C charging port on either side of the bed, in addition to a concealed hook to hang your headset on. Beneath the bed is ample console storage with built-in wire management; it’s an easily accessible, open space to ensure your consoles don’t overheat. Due to this compartment being open, you can choose to charge your controller via your console if you'd rather use the headboard's USB-C port for your phone. In addition to the side opening for your gaming hardware, there's also the greater storage space of the ottoman frame itself – simply lift up the mattress to access your under-bed storage.
Another welcome surprise was the soft furnishing of the bed frame. The images make it look hard, but it’s a plush finish that softens its angular structure. The only issue we found with its softness was how much it enticed our cat to use the footboard’s top as a scratch post. We eventually had to improvise and add a wooden veneer over the top; it doubles as a handy additional shelf. What is more, it in no way hinders the TV from rising up from inside the footboard, so I’m rather pleased with our little DIY project.

We’ve gone from minimal tech in our bedroom to the dreamiest setup any gamer could wish for. The X Rocker Nebula Ottoman TV Bed is the complete package, living up to the hype that such an investment creates. It’s an item you can do without, however, it’s also one that’s quite transformative once you’ve experienced it. If you have the funds to treat yourself – and let’s be honest, it’s quite the treat – I highly doubt you’ll regret your decision.
