Call of Duty: Ghost Edition Gunnar Glasses review - Essential gaming protection

A worthy accessory for any Call of Duty fan

Don’t sit too close to the TV otherwise, you’ll go blind, warned our parents. A common claim that many of us will relate to growing up.

However, sitting too close to the TV as a child, and spending countless hours playing video games has had no long-lasting damage to my eyesight. But that’s not to say that your eyesight won't deteriorate as you get older because father time comes for us all.

That being said, whether you’re sitting in front of a 4K TV competing online in multiplayer shooters such as Call of Duty and Fortnite or sitting at a desk facing a monitor from nine to five, the chances are that you’ll encounter something called repetitive eye strain.

The best course of action to counter this would be to have regular short breaks for a few minutes every hour or so, but sometimes, that’s not always possible in a place of work. Heck, when we are immersed in a video game, we might simply lose track of time and before we know it, repetitive eye strain has kicked in. This is where gaming glasses from Gunnar, such as the Call of Duty: Ghost Edition come into play.

I started using gaming glasses about a year ago, not so much to game with but to hopefully reduce eye strain from sitting in front of a monitor all day for work. I started off buying cheap glasses, ranging from £5 and £10. They did a job to an extent reducing some eye strain as well as the headaches it would cause, but they never removed them entirely.

Gunnar gaming glasses protect your eyes from the harmful effects of digital screens such as blue and ultraviolet lights. That protection is largely due to the photochromic amber sun shift lens technology, which darkens or lightens potentially harmful lights depending on environmental conditions, offering a more consistent rate of light transmission.

With an RRP of $74 (roughly £60), you would hope that the Gunnar glasses are well made and that is certainly the case with the Call of Duty: Ghost Edition. The aviator design is very befitting of the iconic Black Ops character Russell Adler. They feel sturdy with the multi-barrel hinges and polymer frame material allowing you to fold the glasses without concern of them breaking easily.

Inside the box, you’ll get a strong collector’s case that will protect the glasses on your travels, as well as a pouch to protect them from dust and a microfibre cloth to keep them clean. The glasses are also smudge-resistant with its oleophobic coating, and while the T&Cs say “while stocks last” there is a code for an in-game Black Ops 6 weapon charm that resembles the Nintendo Game Boy.

I’ve mostly been using gaming glasses for work and being sat in front of a monitor all day for five days a week, I can say that my headaches have been drastically reduced, compared to cheaper alternatives. I’ve even been using them when playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and EA Sports FC 25, and overall, it does feel like I’m having less strain on my eyes when gaming. For the price of $74, the Gunnar Call of Duty: Ghost Edition gaming glasses are a fantastic investment for work and play. Trust me, your eyes will thank you later.
