Untouched for 28 years as the undisputed greatest game of all time, crowned with a 99 Metacritic score that fends off SoulCalibur, GTA 4, and Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still well worth playing.
While many mod enthusiasts have tried to bring the classic title into the modern day with impressive 4K overhauls, the original game holds its own in the big 2026.
So much so that nearly three decades after its first release, Zelda fans are now only just finding some hidden secrets within the game, notably with the legendary Master Sword.
Known as the 'blade of evil's bane' that separates Hyrule from the devilish grasp of Ganondorf, it breaks anything from skulls to curses to magical barriers between realms.

And, to much surprise... rocks.
With the Master Sword being the pinnacle creative stroke that served as the cherry on top of a masterful combat system that has directly influenced the greatest titles of every generation since, Link's ability wheel with the blade knows no boundaries.
Now, players are only just finding out that it can be used as a rock-smashing hammer, with the right tactic, which means you will seldom have to sheath it in your conquest of Hyrule.

It all stems from the popular crouch stab mechanic, as the sword stores its damage output from previous hits.
This means if you swing for the stars with a powerful jump attack, it will replicate the damage with its next hit, and can double the effect of a sneaky crouch stab.
Many players will be familiar with that move, but what we're just finding out is that it also remembers your previous attack with any weapon - including the hammer.
So, if you find yourself gathering gems or smashing obstacles in the midst of a ReDead attack, you can actually smash one rock with the hammer and then equip the sword to continue breaking boulders.
In a genre decorated with the likes of Soul Edge (SoulCalibre), Buster Sword (Final Fantasy VII), Keyblade (Kingdom Hearts), and more, this neat hack sets Master Sword above all the most versatile blades in the industry.

This isn't the only recently uncovered secret in Ocarina of Time, and players have been stunned to find hidden underground bunkers that were never supposed to be discovered.
These elusive moments are what make the title truly spectacular, and can only ever be rivalled by its successors when talking about the greatest games ever made.
That is, with hope, until Link's new adventure in 2027.
