It's never ideal when something increases in price, especially during a cost of living crisis.
Sadly, one such price increase concerns Microsoft’s Xbox Series X console. Thankfully, there’s still time to purchase the console at its current price if you act fast. At the time of writing, the Xbox Series X has an RRP of £449.99. The price increase will impact several regions of the world, but will exclude the United States. Previously Sony’s PlayStation 5 increased in price globally back in August 2022, also excluding the US.
Following in the footsteps of Sony, trillion-dollar company Microsoft will also be increasing the price of its premium console. However, at least for now, the price of the Xbox Series S remains unchanged.

How much will the Xbox Series X be increasing in price? In the UK, the price jumps from £449.99 to £479.99, currently the same price as the PlayStation 5 (disc version). In most regions of Europe, the price jumps from €499.99 to €549.99. In Canada, it will jump from $599.99 to $649.99. Finally, Australia will see an increase from $749.99 to $799.99.
It’s a shame that we’re seeing such an increase in the price of the Xbox Series X. In previous generations, the cost of a console would usually decrease at retailers, rather than go up. I guess we could argue that at least the Xbox Series X or PS5 are not essential, but it’s no less disappointing.
If there is one positive from this story, it is that the price increase does not take immediate effect. According to The Verge, the Xbox Series X price increase will happen in August this year. So, if you were thinking of purchasing the Series X at some point, the next few months would be a perfect time.
In related news, it’s not only the Series X that will be increasing in price, because Xbox Game Pass is about to get more expensive. In more positive news, Microsoft is releasing an improved Xbox Series S later this year.
