Xbox and PC owners are being treated to free DLC for a truly special sci-fi game currently available through their Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.

Everybody loves a freebie from time to time but for Xbox fans especially they’re becoming more and more common and some don’t even require Xbox Game Pass. Just this week a multiplayer first-person shooter with an inspired premise went free-to-play on all platforms.

This latest batch of freebies isn’t as exciting as a whole new game but they’re still worth grabbing as the game they’re attributed to comes highly recommended from those who’ve played it.

Available now are three DLC expansions for the sci-fi strategy game Stellaris.

For those who don’t know what Stellaris is, it’s an enormous title by Paradox Development Studios that sees players explore a vast and dangerous galaxy. You’ll touch base with a wide variety of planets and come into contact with loads of different alien species, all in service of building a grand galactic empire.

You can play it on your Xbox and PC through Xbox Game Pass and as a special treat Paradox has made three of its DLCs free.

The first is the Stellaris: Humanoids Species Pack, which adds new gameplay options for what’s known as the “most-played phenotype” in the game. You’ll basically have access to new origin stories including the option to create an army of clones to aid in your galactic conquest. It’s very Star Wars-coded.

Next is the Stellaris: Synthetic Dawn Story Pack which is very topical in this day and age because it’s all about taking over the universe with AI… The DLC basically adds a new faction of cybernetic warriors that’ll help you replace all biomass with sleek and shiny metal.

The last DLC that’s been made free is Stellaris: Utopia, which was the first major expansion for the game after it was released. This one is all about building an empire to be proud of with a wide array of megastructures and new abilities to keep your growing civilisation in order. It’s a nice one to be made free.

All three of the above DLCs will either be great additions to your existing playthrough if you don’t have them already, or a great starting point if you’re jumping into Stellaris for the very first time.

While Xbox Game Pass subscribers on Xbox and PC can play Stellaris whenever they choose Steam users might feel left out. Fear not though as Paradox has made the above DLCs free on Valve’s storefront as well.

You’ll just need to buy a copy of the game if you don’t own one already. For those interested it’s currently on sale with 75% off.

If you’re a long-time fan of empire building games or feel like trying one for the very first time these freebies have you covered.
