Ukraine government taunts Russia with GTA 'Wasted' meme

Russia lost its most important line into Crimea over the weekend.

In a utterly strange twist of events, the official government of Ukraine taunted the Russian army with a Grand Theft Auto "wasted" meme.

Since early September, Ukrainian forces have been able to reclaim a significant area with counter offensives in the east and south of the country, reinstating control over locations like Yatskivka, Kupiansk and Lyman. Over the weekend, there was an explosion that destroyed the only bridge across Kerch Strait between annexed Crimea with the Russian mainland. At the moment, neither Ukraine nor Russia have been identified as the instigator behind the detonation, however, Ukrainian officials have publicly celebrated the destruction due to the importance of the bridge to Russian supply lines.

Oleksiy Danilov, the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council for Ukraine, published a video of the bridge alongside a video of Marilyn Monroe singing "Happy Birthday Mr President." The attack took place just after President Vladimir Putin's birthday, you see, and it looks like the official Twitter account for the country has had some fun at Russia's expense too.

Yesterday, it tweeted the "wasted" meme with the caption "Grand Theft Army: Russia," adding a mention for Rockstar Games. Take a look:

Appreciably, this might look like a weird way to celebrate the loss of Russia's route into Crimea, but the existence of the bridge is a symbol of Putin's long-standing aim to invade Ukraine and subsume it into the Federation. There was even a rom-com made about the building of the bridge, so you can sort of see why Ukrainians are delighting in the destruction of that, and in the most devastating way possible - memes.
