Tragic Star Wars prequel shows us what happened to Yoda's lightsaber

Tragic Star Wars prequel shows us what happened to Yoda's lightsaber

Yoda didn't deserve this

Despite being a legendary Jedi Master, Yoda’s life has been far from easy.

Few lives in the Star Wars universe have been left unmarred by corruption or pain, however, Yoda seems to have especially suffered over the course of his long life.

The Jedi Master, once thought to be Grogu’s father, not only had to endure years of the Empire’s oppression, but he also had to bid farewell to his lightsaber.

Few things come between a Jedi and their lightsaber.

Unfortunately for Yoda, the lightsaber he once intended to give to Leia ended up falling into the hands of the Empire.

As you’d expect from the villains of the piece, it didn’t fare well.

This tragic prequel doesn’t take place on-screen but instead upon the pages of Marvel’s Darth Vader: Lord of the Sith issue one.

During the story told in ‘The Chosen One, Part I’, Darth Vader is instructed by Palpatine to create a lightsaber of his own.

It happens during a time when the Empire is flexing its villainous muscles by disposing of any remnants of the Jedi Order.

While Palpatine walks Vader through the process of crafting his new weapon, the Empire burns dozens of Jedi lightsabers; among those burnt is Yoda’s.

Such a small detail, yet one that tells of the Empire’s unforgiving might as it attempted to crush any last reminder of the Jedi’s influence.

At this juncture you’re probably wondering what else could befall this iconic Jedi Master, as well as question the future of Vader’s story.

Although it seems done and dusted, there’s life in this complex character yet.

Vader’s tale is far from being over, as fans unite over the new Darth Vader.

This might not mean anything for poor Yoda, but considering how non-linear the storytelling in Star Wars can be, who knows if he’ll show up in the new chapter.

Even if he does, it seems he’ll need a new lightsaber...
