A Stranger Things fan was allegedly catsfished and scammed by someone claiming to be Dacre Montgomery, who plays Billy on the popular Netflix show.
As reported by PopCulture in a YouTube video, the Stranger Things fan was approached by a unknown individual on an online forum, who claimed to be the famous actor Dacre Montgomery.

The two conversed for months, with “Dacre” proclaiming their love for the fans, but making constant excuses for why a face-to-face meeting couldn’t happen.

Things took a sinister turn when they made out their partner was withholding their money from them, and they needed the fan to send a total of $10,000 as soon as possible, which was done without hesitation. It got even worse when the fan left their husband for the actor, only to find out she’d been scammed, losing her partner and thousands of dollars in the process.
PopCulture’s video featured some of the messages the person sent to manipulate the woman into giving them what they wanted, saying things like:
“I want you to be my girlfriend”
“I’m so sorry I can’t call of facetime you. Liv is always around and I can’t snek away to call you”

“I might need a little help with money my queen… Liv has control of all the accounts and I don’t have access”
As awful as the situation was, many were unsympathetic, especially with all the red flags the interactions were clearly giving off.
“Imagine thinking you met a famous actor and they need YOUR money... the math isn't mathing.”
“Girl come on! “

“I felt bad until I read she left her husband?!?!”
Hopefully, all the publicity the catfish has been getting will make the more impressionable online users out there more wary of internet scams.
