Our favourite fictional trio is back and with a brand-new era of Star Wars on the horizon, it seems as though we are still going back to its roots.

Over recent years, the Star Wars franchise has begun to branch out with spin-off shows such as Andor and The Acolyte exploring different stories within the galaxy.

However, original fans will still remember the ultimate trio: Hans, Leia and Luke and although their stories are over in the movies, it seems as though they are set to make a return in a new ongoing comic book series.

Written by Los Angeles Times Book Prize winner Alex Segura with art from Phil Noto, this new series will focus on the period of the events after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

“It’s a huge honor — and massive responsibility — to steer the Star Wars flagship, and I couldn’t ask for a better collaborator than Phil Noto, who is just a masterful artist, and a Star Wars visionary,” Segura said over on StarWars.com.

For Noto, working on this series was a childhood dream come true.

“Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page!

It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them.

I get to create new looks for them while also having references of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”

The series will bridge the gaps between Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will be explored through three limited series with links to the Battle of Jakku (Insurgency Rising, Republic Under Siege, and Last Stand.)

Hans, Leia and Luke will return in Star Wars #1 which goes on sale on 7 May.
