Star Wars has a problem with hanging around the same old characters, mining the same stories for new material, but it’s something many fans love.
We like seeing the old characters in new adventures, but of course, the actors are getting older, or in the case of Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher, have sadly passed on.
One fan, over on Reddit, has a theory to improve future storytelling, by recasting Luke Skywalker, letting Mark Hamill retire the character, but keep Luke appearing in new shows or films.
They call this a “hot take” and they go on to say, “I love Mark Hamill, he will always be Luke, his face is iconic, but we need to progress.”

They describe how bad the CGI is in newer shows, where they de-age Luke Skywalker to fit the timeline.
The user goes on to note, “We need more Luke [...] and if you hate the idea of Luke being recast, y’all are the reason Star Wars will never progress.”
It’s a bold statement, and one that could have fallen flat, but other fans are in agreement.
User baordog replied, “I'd be cool with a Luke recast. The CGI doesn't hold up for long stretches.”

“Literally all the Original Trilogy crew, Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, and Lando have been recast, they just prefer to CGI or AI their faces after the supposed failure of Solo,” mentions one Redditor.
Solo failed for many reasons, but this user has a point. It’s hard to see these characters played by new faces.
“Bro not even a hot take, we’ve been asking for Sebastian Stan to play Luke for years!!” exclaimed this-guy-is-lit.
Cdog923 goes all in on this, saying, “Give Graham Hamilton a legit shot at Luke, bring Alden back as Han, and find a Leia.”

While there is a lot of support for the idea, it’s clear that a lot of fans would actually rather see fresh stories with new characters, but if Disney continues to push old favourites, perhaps a recast is in order.
