Star Wars fans point out Luke didn't really blow up the Death Star himself

Some truths hurt

We need to address the adoration Luke received for blowing up the Death Star because let’s be honest here, he didn’t do it alone.

Luke Skywalker is, without a doubt, a powerful Jedi.

However, while he possesses many fine and admirable qualities, a lot of his achievements weren’t his alone.

There are numerous moments we could draw your attention to, but as plenty of Star Wars fans have recently discussed, the destruction of the Death Star is a prime example.

Luke undoubtedly made that vital hit that burst it into a shower of space confetti, however, it was with the aid of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s “oneness with the Force”.

When Halloween_Jack95 started a Reddit post criticising “Obi-Wan fanboys”, little did they know they were about to be schooled in why and how Obi-Wan won in various ways.

Their initial issue was with people claiming Obi-Wan wins the fight against Vader; “I always feel like some Obi-Wan Fanboys want to take Vaders win away from him,” the OP remarked.

They also said that Obi-Wan “did not accomplish anything special as [a] Force Ghost”.

From here, not only did other Star Wars fans explain why Vader didn’t win despite his skills, but they also pointed out that Obi-Wan's death was an enormous victory that guided Luke at several points.

Chiefly, during that trench run on the Death Star.

“Didn’t accomplish anything special as a Force Ghost? Luke would have used the targeting computer on his X-wing during the trench run if Obi-Wan had not intervened,” stated Respecd.

“Kenobi won in the most important ways,” commented another fan, “It's 100% a Kenobi win even if you don't count his guidance in destroying the Death Star, which you should.”

Redditor ICTheAlchemist summarised it best why death was necessary to facilitate these victories. “Being a ghost means he’s no longer fettered by the constraints of a physical form," they posted.

The next time you praise Luke, just make sure you’re praising Obi-Wan, as well.

We might all be losing it over Luke’s return in a new series, but he wouldn’t be regarded so highly without Obi-Wan.

Without Obi-Wan's sacrifice and expertise, Luke wouldn’t have become the Jedi we fawn over.
