In some respects, it feels like this Star Wars series was doomed from the beginning.

Granted, those fans initially review bombed the wrong movie, but it wasn’t long before their ire translated into a hefty reduction in viewership.

Which brings us to part of the reason why The Acolyte was cancelled, at least according to a Star Wars insider.
As detailed by Forbes, “low viewership” is largely to blame for the show’s premature end.
That and how quickly views for the Disney series rapidly decreased; various third-party sources have highlighted that episode two is when the audience seemed to switch off.
Beyond these obvious issues, there’s also the staggering cost of the show.

Fans were horrified to learn the true cost of The Acolyte, having discovered that for every minute of footage it cost roughly $670k
Even if some of these figures are slightly off, the show still had an (approxmate) $180 million budget.
If you focus on this alone, it makes sense why executives culled the show: there simply wasn’t enough of a return.
Not that knowing this makes the loss of The Acolyte any easier for the numerous fans desperate to know what became of its characters.
