Star Wars fans agree Darth Maul's return is just what the series needed

It was a moment of brilliance

Star Wars fans don’t often agree, but on one thing they seem to be united - the return of Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars was brilliant.

Despite being cut in half at the end of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul actually returns in a very interesting and authentic way.

Sci-fi and post-apocalypse clash in Chernobylite 2 Exclusion Zone which is available soon.

He also has the agency to return as his vendetta against Obi-Wan Kenobi is fully stoked, which adds a great narrative to why he struggled to survive and make a comeback.

His story, once he’s a returning character rather than a cameo, also becomes something of a tragedy, and while the viewer doesn’t agree with his spicy actions, we sympathise with him being used by Palpatine.

This return was discussed on Reddit, and everyone agrees that Darth Maul’s comeback was a stroke of genius.

ComradeDread starts off the replies with, “I'm happy with how his story turned out if only for the end with Kenobi in Rebels and you come to see him not as the monster he became but the victim of Sidious he also was.”

Another Redditor agrees and says, “After Darth Maul's on-screen death, he became one of the most complex villains and there are tons of great stories centred on him so I'm super happy he survived being cut in half.”

Darth Maul was severely underused in The Phantom Menace but he ended up being one of the greatest villains in Star Wars history.

Perhaps due to being a focus in a TV show, and therefore getting more time to shine, he became complex and had more layers than being ‘just a bad guy.’

“One of the few coming back from the dead stories that worked. It was a bit of a stretch, but it went into the power of hatred and the dark side that allowed him to live,” said Logical-Witness-3361.

Yet another agreement comes from delatour56 who comments, “There was depth to his character, his pain and strength.”

So, there’s one thing we can all agree on.
