Entire plane watching World Cup apart from one lone Lord Of The Rings fan

Never have we related to someone more than this.

Football fever is well and truly upon us – even if you’re not a footie fan, it’s difficult to avoid the constant stream of matches, scores, and opinions. That is, unless you laugh openly in the face of societal expectations and enjoy the finer things in life, like one plane passenger who chose Lord of the Rings: Return of the King over Australia v. France on 12 August.

Check out how dedicated some LOTR fans are!

Jacqueline Felgate, an Australian journalist on the same flight, caught the spectacular moment when cheers rang through the plane while one devoted fan cared only for the plight of Hobbits and Gandalf’s smiling face. In fact, if you ask us, Gandalf is smiling because he knows the power the Peter Jackson trilogy still has.

Since the video was posted online, people have been nothing short of obsessed with the “king”, as one commenter called them, who went their own way. Not only is their iconic indifference to the World Cup awe-inspiring, but the fact that the cheers ring out just when the Fellowship reunites is truly the best visual to explain the saying “perfect timing”.

Even now, as the dust settles on more recent matches, we can’t help but think of that one hero who’s walking amongst us. What are they doing now? And, more importantly, are they continuing with their fantasy fix by watching The Hobbit trilogy? We know it isn’t nearly as good as LOTR, but we can’t say how far down the rabbit hole they are right now; sometimes it’s hard to stop once you start soaking up that J. R. R. Tolkien goodness.

No matter what continues to happen during this World Cup, it’s unlikely that anything will be captured that’s as truly inspirational, legendary, and glorious as being that individual who bows to no one.
