Spider-Man 4 just hired the best possible director

This bodes well

It’s been a while since Tom Holland’s Spider-Man graced our screens - three years to be exact.

And yet, Spider-Man 4 remains pretty elusive.

It’s certainly in pre-production, albeit rather quietly with very little chatter from Marvel.

According to actor Don Cheadle though, the future of the MCU is currently being rewritten so you can understand why things are up in the air.

That much was clear when The Kang Dynasty was re-announced as Doomsday.

It always felt like a given that Holland’s Spidey would appear again given that he’s such a fan-favourite and destined to be the new face of the MCU.

I suppose the question has always been, where does it make the most sense to bring the character back in terms of what else is going on in this phase’s launch slate.

We don’t exactly know the answer to that question but Marvel is beginning to pin down a few details, namely, a director.

Agatha All Along is set to premiere on 18 September. Take a look at the trailer below.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Destin Daniel Cretton is stepping into the role of director for Spider-Man 4.

Cretton will take over from Jon Watts who helmed the first three entries - and while Watts did a fantastic job, I think it’s time for the Spidey films to be viewed with a fresh lens.

Just look at what switching directors did for the Thor films. Taika Waititi brought us a refreshed version of the character and while that version now too may have run its course, it’s testament to just how important it is to keep revitalising a franchise.

Cretton is no stranger to the MCU. After all, he directed the fantastic Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Well, fantastic before the messy ending.

Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers will pen the script, with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal in their usual producing roles.

McKenna and Sommers wrote all three prior Spider-Man entries so you should expect some familiarity.

I simply hope that the next instalment isn’t too reliant on the multiverse again.
