To Kang or not to Kang, that is the question

The Multiverse Saga hasn’t quite lived up to the triumphs of The Infinity Saga, but its fortunes are turning around.

While there are different facets that have contributed to this, I think a key aspect of The Multiverse Saga’s rocky start concerned its villain, Kang.

The introduction of The Infinity Saga’s Thanos had to be earned.

For the best part of a decade, we’d catch small glimpses of the Mad Titan in post-credits scenes, all of which gave very little away.

In the meantime, our heroes would dispatch of other threats while for years and years, we quietly sat knowing that Thanos was growing in power.

That wasn’t the case with Kang who instead was a villain who was essentially shoved down our throats.

He was easily dispatched in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as was he in Loki.

Yes, neither were the most powerful Kang variants but all sense of intrigue and threat was lost.

Thunderbolts* debuts next year.

Of course, allegations then came out against actor Jonathan Majors and it’s at this point that Marvel made the pivot to focusing on Doctor Doom instead, casting Robert Downey Jr.

But that doesn’t mean that Kang is definitely out of the story for good as the character still hasn’t technically been eliminated.

Fans have been discussing whether it’s worth recasting the character or whether his fate should be dealt with offscreen and I find myself a tad unsurprised that everyone is in agreement that it should be the latter.

“Assume Feige and co saw an opportunity to walk away from the storyline and blame it on external factors instead of their own s***ty writing. That's my take on it. If Kang had been popular and hype, they would have recast,” said a critical gezondebob.

“His cinematic debut, makes him lose to Ant-Man of all people and is, in general, considered one of the worst MCU movies,” added Frankorious.

“His story sucked. They wasted how many millions on how many movies and shows and people didn't care,” wrote finallytherockisbac.

It sounds like it’s a resounding good riddance.
