MCU sex scene being absolutely roasted by fans to this day

MCU sex scene being absolutely roasted by fans to this day

Eternals gets a little steamy

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has pumped out banger after banger, but that doesn't mean the movie franchise isn't prone to the occasional flop from time to time.

For every Avengers: Endgame, there is an Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and for every Eternals, there is a Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sure, most MCU movies bring in far greater box office numbers than most movies, but commercial success doesn't always translate to successful reviews and positive fan feedback.

Check out the Eternals trailer below!

For example, a Marvel movie will often bring in huge box office numbers for simply being under its umbrella but a true representation of fans' thoughts will not be heard until they’ve left the theatre. Plus, that’s not taking into account the huge budgets that Marvel movies demand.

Take for example the topic of today’s conversation, 2021’s Eternals. This MCU flop which had a reported budget of $236 million brought in a reported $402 million. By most movie standards that would be considered a massive success but not by most standards set by the MCU.

At the end of the day, we’re all each to our own and the world would be a very boring place if we all enjoyed the same things. However, there is one scene in Eternals that I believe most would agree brings the cringe.

The cringe in question is related to an awkward sex scene in Eternals. Sure, there’s nothing explicit about this moment but that won't stop the awkward feeling for parents watching this movie with children when a rare MCU scene of a sexual nature pops up out of nowhere.

“Wow, why is there a sex scene in Eternals and why did they make sure to show she orgasmed? Is this even a Marvel movie?” asked a Redditor referring to the scene between Sersi and Ikaris.

“I was thinking the same thing, I just saw the movie and found it unnecessary, because I didn't think it helped to move the story along, it didn't really add anything,” agreed MissssMegaphonic.

“I think it’s meant to show that Sersi and Ikaris have a more intimate connection than normal. Especially when it comes to Eternals who don’t need to do things like humans do,” replied a fellow member on the thread.

In another Reddit thread, a user joked: “Eternals is the first MCU movie to feature a sex scene, it’s also the lowest-rated MCU movie, this is because Marvel fans don’t know what sex is, so they couldn’t relate to it.”

“Ah, yes the sex scene that was supposed to convince us that they were in love, even though their relationship was positively lacklustre,” exclaimed Zestyclose-Leader926.

They continued: “Also, having sex in the sand is a terrible idea. Sure you could argue that they're highly sophisticated flesh robots so it didn't really matter to them. But the idea of sand going up the rear is enough to make it comedic rather than sexy.”

Is Eternals as bad as some make it out to be? Well, that will be for you to decide. If you’ve never watched the Eternals and want to find out for yourself, it’s available to stream via Disney Plus at no extra cost.
