Since his first appearance in 1962, Marvel’s Thor has gone on to become a much-loved character both on screen and on page.
Inspired by the God of Thunder from Norse mythology, Thor has remained a figurehead of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over 60 years and thanks to his portrayal on the big screen, fans have fallen head-over-heels for the blonde-haired god.

Portrayed by Chris Hemsworth and first appearing in 2011’s Thor, he has since appeared in seven more feature films with Thor: Love and Thunder being his most recent in 2022.

Since then, Hemsworth himself has said that he has no plans to head into the “retirement period” as Thor is “way too young for that”.
So we can definitely expect to see the hammer-wielding god make an appearance in the future.
However, fans are not happy with how Thor has been depicted in recent projects with Marvel Studios seemingly unsure how to present such a formidable character.
The discussion kicked off earlier this week over on r/MCUTheories with one user posting the following:

“Anyone find it strange how Thor went from no eye, no hammer King in Ragnarök, to a new eye, new axe in Infinity War, then to a guy with both hammers, original eye back, no intelligence at all in Love and Thunder?
Feels like reverse development.”
There is no denying that Thor has had quite a design switch-up in recent years and this has not gone unnoticed by fellow Marvel fans.
User saibjai had the following to add, “I think the original Thor was played too rigidly.. too generic.

So Hemsworth and Taika [Waititi] found the character in Ragnarök with humour and it really gave the character life in the subsequent movies.
It was a mixture of humour and a tortured soul.... perhaps the only way someone could deal with losing so much.
Then in Thor 4, they took that formula and went way way way overboard into comedy central.”
FDVP said, “I’m ok with Thor’s current development since his arc is yet to be completed.

This film establishes the foundation for Thor to be a future King by addressing the future of Asgard, the kids. He’s not ready to become All-Father until he learns to be a father. It’s about the kids.”
