Marvel's new Blade actor was already in the MCU, though you might've missed it

It’s basically double jeopardy

One of the MCU’s most underrated villains is also starring in the upcoming and seemingly troubled Marvel movie, Blade.

In 1998, we were blessed with one of the best comic book to movie adaptations of all time, Blade starring Wesley Snipes and this was long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe became a thing.

Check out the Marvel's Luke Cage trailer below!

“A half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires,” reads the synopsis of Blade. We were then treated to a fun sequel in 2002 but the less said about the third movie in 2004, Blade Trinity, the better.

Since that 2004 disappointment, we haven't had a new Blade movie, which is why when the reboot was announced in 2019 for the MCU, starring Mahershala Ali it sparked excitement amongst fans. Sadly, however, it seems the new Blade movie has hit several roadblocks and there are concerns that it might get cancelled.

Whether or not the Blade reboot will see the light of day, at least Mahershala Ali, has already starred in the MCU, albeit as a short-lived but memorable character. As written in a feature from CBR.com, Ali starred in the Netflix (now Disney Plus) series Marvel’s Luke Cage as the gangster, Cottonmouth.

I’ve seen mixed opinions on Marvel’s Luke Cage which is perhaps reflected upon by its 71% user and 87% critic scores on the aggregate website, Rotten Tomatoes. Personally, I enjoyed the series, which is why I’ll forever be disappointed that it will probably never get a third season.

If you’ve never watched Marvel’s Luke Cage, I can certainly recommend it and with a bit of luck, we will see Mahershala Ali return in the MCU as Blade.

Oh, and if you want more Blade goodness, Dishonored studio, Arkane Lyon is developing a new game set in its Marvel universe which currently does not have a release date at the time of writing.
