We got some details about a new Black Panther series that’s set in the MCU at D23 this weekend, although it’s currently unconfirmed if it will actually feature the superhero or not.
Eyes of Wakanda, a four-part animated miniseries, was announced all the way back in 2021 by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.
Details about the then-untitled series were pretty sparse at the time, and indeed remained sparse until recently when the project was discussed at a D23 panel.

The series is supposedly separate from another Wakanda-focused show that is also in the works, although there are little to no details regarding this second show. It’s confirmed that the project will be live-action.
So far, we also know that Eyes of Wakanda will feature actress Danai Gurira who will be reprising her role as Okoye.
ICYMI: Take a look at the trailer for the upcoming Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra starring a version of Black Panther.
The show was conceived and directed by long-time MCU contributor Todd Harris, who previously worked as a storyboard artist on films including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

It was previously confirmed that the series will release sometime in 2024, and that it is set in the same universe as the main Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Outside of this, we don’t really know what the plot of the show will be or when it will even be set. It’s more than likely we’ll see or hear about Black Panther in some shape or form, but exactly which Black Panther that will end up being is still up in the air.
This follows on from other animated news that was announced at D23, such as confirmation that Spider-Man in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (previously known as Spider-Man: Freshman Year) will be played by actor Hudson Thames (who previously played the character in the What If…? animated show).
It was also confirmed that season two of X-Men ‘97 will feature the characters Apocalypse, Polaris and Sabretooth, as well as having the X-Men don their suits from the well-regarded Grant Morrison series New X-Men.
