Marvel fans divided over controversial new MCU death

Marvel fans divided over controversial new MCU death

Another one bites the dust

This latest MCU death has rocked the boat with fans.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Marvel fans aren’t strangers to the death of a beloved character.

That said, Marvel also has the ability to play fast and loose with death so that passing away doesn’t necessarily mean we never see a character again.

But as far this new MCU death goes? It’s genuine, and it’s here to stay.

Will the coven survive in Agatha All Along...?

Since Agatha All Along was first announced, fans have been desperate to see the darkness at the heart of this WandaVision spin-off properly explored.

Creator Jac Schaefferto didn’t just want to pay lip service, they wanted to prove that “the show has teeth”.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Schaefferto details why such a controversial death was necessary.

“This show has teeth, and in the later episodes it goes to really dramatic places. It was important to signal that, it was important to make it clear that we're not messing around, that people die in this show,” they explain.

“We are theatrical, campy, broad, all the spectacle, all the fun, all the winking, all the meta, but that underneath it all, there is real grit to the story. There is real meaning to it [...] It felt disingenuous to not really go there.”

Just a heads up, we’re getting into specific spoilers now.

When Mrs Hart died, it was somewhat of a shock, yet it also felt like the safer option out of all the characters present.

At least, that’s how some of the fans feel about the scene.

“To deliver a message that ‘we're not messing around’ by killing a character, Sharon/Hart is a really ineffective choice. She obviously never fit in with the other characters. She entirely lacked their skills, motivation, and narrative stakes. A total redshirt death,” argues Senshado.

To this, another fan agreed saying, “Hard agree, feels pretty pointless and empty if it’s truly not a misdirect.”

But there are those who feel such a death does prove that anyone could die.

After all, we’re only four episodes in yet there’s been a death, not to mention countless touch and go moments for the rest of the coven.

“I also am feeling strong attachment to everyone in this little coven, but there was a certain line in the trailer that leads me to believe more deaths are coming: Rio says ‘The bodies are really piling up’,” points out N8CCRG.

Ineffective death or not, this MCU casualty is an ominous one.
