The Harry Potter reboot, while fraught with many potential issues, is at least beneficial for one specific reason: the new Ron Weasley.
Even though we’ve yet to learn of HBO’s casting choices, many fans are already breathing a sigh of relief when it comes to the upcoming portrayal of Harry’s best friend.
As detailed on r/HarryPotter, much of the community feels that Ron was badly portrayed in the films when compared to his book counterpart.

Consequently, they demand “justice” for the beloved character.

“Ron has multiple moments taken from him in the movies and is just there to be comic relief a lot of the time,” argued Mdx123. “He is seen as useless by many people who only watch the movies. “

I remember my old media studies teacher referring to Ron as useless when we analysed the Prisoner of Azkaban film, so the OP's comments ring true.
“He’s also pretty sharp. He’s not an idiot. He solves puzzles. Steps up. The movie run is not peak Ron,” added Creative_Ad9485.
Even the moment in the first film, when Ron solves the Chess game, pales in comparison to the Ron we read about.
As one fan lamented, after that specific film scene, it “went downhill from there”.

Of course, everyone thus far in this discussion is assuming that HBO will honour the books more than the films.
Most fans assume the creative team will focus on the books, but we’re still pretty in the dark about this reboot.
“They better be accurate or else it is going to be a problem,” the OP remarked.
“Allegedly one of the reasons they are making this remake is to explore things not shown in the movies from the books and introduce Harry Potter to a new generation. They now have all the time they need to tell the complete story.”

This should mean that Ron’s depiction is in safe hands. We can but hope that this is true.
