Next year, HBO’s Harry Potter reboot is set to land on our TV screens with filming commencing very soon.
Official casting is yet to be confirmed but we do have some idea of what the show might look like visually.
It’s been confirmed that certain sets from the original film series will be reused, including The Great Hall, with others reimagined for the TV show.

I did wonder how the project would deal with the challenge of rebooting something that remains so prevalent in the public consciousness.
The plan is to adapt one book per season so while I do think it’ll take some time for viewers to welcome and accept a new iteration of Harry Potter, the TV version should offer a more expansive take on this story.
It’s not the only adaptation that fans are hoping to see though.
Alongside the reboot, one suggestion doing the rounds is that Voldemort should be given his own spin-off, charting the villain’s origins.

ICYMI: Take a look at the teaser trailer for the TV series below.
When I say origins, I don’t believe we’re referencing Voldemort’s childhood as that was explored in both the book and film series.
What we’ve never really seen is the villain’s rise to power.

The formation of the horcruxes, the rise of the Death Eaters, the build up to the night Lily Potter’s sacrifice destroyed Voldemort for the first time … there’s plenty of material to work with.
“I wish they had done more on Voldemort’s villain origin story. It could be a series itself,” Reddit user funnnevidence wrote.
“Voldemort at Hogwarts would be amazing too. Him rediscovering ancient lore and eventually finding the Chamber of Secrets, building a cult of personality around himself, evading Dumbledore’s watchfulness, etc,” added SullaFelix78.
Troll4everxdxd commented, “I would love seeing Voldemort's gradual physical transformation as he creates more Horcruxes. We got a glimpse of it during his visit to Dumbledore to ask for a job, in which he was basically halfway through becoming the snake man we all know and hate.”

There are definitely the bones of something here.
My only concern is that when you create a spin-off where viewers already know the end-point, you have to ensure that the story has enough twists and turns to keep them engaged.
With the right writing team, perhaps that could be achieved. Warner Bros. is clearly going all-in on Harry Potter so I’m imagining it’s only a matter of time until a spin-off is unveiled.
