The epilogue for the Harry Potter series has divided fans for years with fans torn over the lives of our Golden Trio, not to mention some of those name choices.
However, with readers and watchers only getting a brief look at the beloved characters twenty years after the events of the Battle of Hogwarts, a lot has been left up to interpretation and that includes the fate of the castle groundskeeper himself.
Check out the trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II below!
During Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Hagrid’s final moments are a mix of sadness and joy as he is tasked with carrying Harry’s supposed dead body back to the castle after his confrontation with Voldemort.

However, once the Dark Lord is defeated, Hagrid is one of the first to congratulate the Boy Who Lived and remains a survivor of the horrific battle.
The half-giant is mentioned during the epilogue, when Harry tells one of his children not to forget that they should visit Hagrid for a cup of tea upon returning to school, leading fans to believe that he still resides in his hut on the edge of Hogwarts’ Forbidden Forest.
However, in a discussion over on r/harrypotter, fans theorised about Hagrid’s wizarding status after the events of the books and movies.
“I just had a brain wave,” the original post read.

“So we know that Harry mended his own wand with the elder wand. We also “theorize” that Hagrid kept the pieces of his wand in his flowery umbrella.
So, I think Harry missed an opportunity here to mend Hagrid’s wand as well.
And you won’t convince me that Kingsley, as interim minister, would have denied a request to reinstate Hagrid’s full wizard status. Just food for thought.”
It seems the general consensus is that Dumbledore had already fixed Hagrid’s wand before we met the pair, as Hagrid would have been unable to perform any magic at all otherwise.

Diagnosedwolf sums it up by saying: “Ron performs magic with a snapped wand that is taped back together. It’s just imperfect magic - which is precisely the kind of magic Hagrid performs.
Of course, his magic could be imperfect because he left school in third year. Hence the continued debate.”
So it remains open to interpretation as to what exactly Hagrid got up to after the Battle of Hogwarts but it seems as though he remained doing one of his favourite pastimes - drinking tea with some of his favourite students.
